700r4 compatibility question
Hi, Ok here is the the issue i have. I have an early year 87 gta transam and someone has put a 85 700r in the car I am just about to finish up on a complete rebuild of the tranny with all the goodies from probuilt.
What i have noticed prior to removing the tranny is in the ecm with the data scanner there are two places that say whether or not 4th gear is engaged and whether or not first gear in engaged. These are not the same as gear selector position.
There are only two switches in the 85 700r i believe one is to tell ecm its in 4th and one is for tcc?
Is this 1985 transmission compatible with my ecm? Why would the ecm need to know if the trans is in first? I should have asked this question before i sunk 1k in the 85 tranny!(not including torqe converter) Please any information will be very helpful.

Re: 700r4 compatibility question
I know it seems to be some stupid questions, But when i scanned my 85 vette there isn't a 4th or 1st engaged place in the scanner.Im only assuming this other 85 trans is the same.So many different variance in electrical components in side these transmissions across the years.
Am i right to think that all of these different changes in the electronics are all for tcc? Does the ecm calculate load vs gear selection at all?Thank in advance.
