T5 to T56
I"m hoping I can get some help here.
My car is not a Camaro, but has a LOT of Camaro parts, including a T5 Trans.
I want to change this to a T56 from a 97.
My question is the speedo problem.
I have a VDO electronic speedo already for the T5, which has a cable drive "adapter" at the trans.
My T56 has just got a hole, thats all, what do I need to adapt my gauge to the T56 ?
I hope some one can help.
Thanks

Re: T5 to T56
The T56 swap thread sticky has over 8 posts that reference two ways of keeping a mechanical speedometer.
And it also has many mentions of going with an electronic speedometer. As well as ways to modify a signal when it's not the correct one for the speedo.
I'd start by reading that.
As far as I know, VDO has programmable and non-programmable speedometers.
T5s have been available with gear driven cables, gear driven VSSs and magnetic pickup VSSs. Yours is which?
The '97 F-body T56 has a 17 pulse per driveshaft revolution signal via magnetic pickup VSS.

Re: T5 to T56
Thanks for reply.
I read all the info here and on other forums, that I found, and nothing seemed to answer the question.
I don't wish to change to a mechanical speedo.
Seems silly I have a programmable vdo electronic speedo, presently it has an adapter from VDO which hooks up to the T5 speedo gear. Since the T56 I wish to install is set up for an electronic speedo from the factory it seems that all I need is some parts to hook up to the VDO gauge. All I have at the trans end is an empty hole. I'm trying to find out what parts I need to hook up my VDO gauge. I found no info on that at all in anything I read.
I might add there are no computers or any elektrickery in my car, so that is not an issue, looking for a simple list of parts needed, and maybe somone who's done this.
