700R4 Shifter Cable?

700R4 Shifter Cable?
Just want to verify after my search. My GTA will physically shift in to the Park position but the car still rolls. All other gears are in the correct spot and the car shifts normal. Other than rolling while in park it's working fine. Do I need a new shifter cable?

If the shifter cable is stretch, then the shifter itself will act funny. However, if you do need a shifter cable dont bother going to the dealer. I just checked this week and GM discontinued it.

As far is it just happening and being able to manually do it by hand, not too sure. I just got it not too long ago and the kid I bought it from told me Some cable broke once before and he had it replaced once already. Not too long after he had it replaced he said it broke again. Sound like he didn't get a GM one the first time. Is there anyone else who made a decent one?

yea, just from my experience 3rd gen F-bodies are notorious for breaking shifter cables. my Trans Am has through 3 and before my 87' Firebird broke 2. Check the aftermarket. you might find something there.

Sounds a lot more like a broken parking pawl than a cable issue.

sorry to revive an old thread, but I have recently started having the same issue in my 88 IROC-Z. are the parking pawl issues common? and what exactly is it?
