T5 to tremec Tko

I need GOOD advice. Will my T5 bellhousing Work with a tremec TKO 500 or 600? I called Tremec,Classic Industries,Year one,and my trans builder and nobody can give me a straight answer. My T5 is an earlier model in my 1984 H.O. Z28. Not a world class

Re: T5 to tremec Tko

Doesn't matter whether your current T-5 is 1st design or 2nd design. They are IDENTICAL IN EVERY DETAIL from the outside, as far as fitment.

If you get the one that's billed as a direct F-body T-5 replacement, it will fit your car as well or as poorly as it fits any other F-body.

Re: T5 to tremec Tko

Year One is the only catalog Where the TKO is listed as a direct replacement. I can't understand why they dont know if the bellhousing from my T5 will work. I called Tremec, Classic Industries, and Year One. None of them can give me an answer.

Re: T5 to tremec Tko

look up Fortes Parts Connection, they have everything you need and are great people

your bell will work, but only with a adapter plate and modified input shaft setup thats all supplied by fortes. Seriously, give them a call. I got my tko600 and everything from them.

Re: T5 to tremec Tko

No you will need an adapter plate. The t5 trans is canted 17 deg and the tko is heads up. I have just gone through all of this but i am using the lakewood bellhousing to the tko600. I think you can find them at spohns web site. In fact for that matter i have one let me know if you want it.

Re: T5 to tremec Tko

your bell housing will work, just need the adapter that goes between that and the trans to rotate it.

Re: T5 to tremec Tko

Year One claims that the bellhousing will work. I should have asked about the torque arm mount. If they are advertising it as a direct bolt in it should have bosses or some kind of provisions for the torque arm. Anybody got any answers for the torque arm mount? I still think it sad that Tremec can't tell me.

Re: T5 to tremec Tko

there are holes in the tailshaft that im sure could be used with a mount that you woul,d have to fabricate.

your stock t5 bell will never mount a tko, you need a adapter plate, since the t5 sits on a angle in the tunnel and the tko needs to sit straight up.

Re: T5 to tremec Tko

Go with the spohn crossmember and get the torque arm off the trans. they make abolt in unit that is really nice. as close to bolt in as you can get. Expensive but way worth it.

haha beat me to it. I just went down in my basement to check on this cause his question had me wondering. I have a TKO sitting in my basement waiting to go into my iroc so i threw a stock T5 torque arm mount on it and it bolted right up with no mods. Im going to run it that way for a season or two until i feel like investing in the spohn ($$$$) setup.

Yup fortes customer here too. I didnt buy my trans from them. I got it used on craigslist and converted to use in my camaro by fortes..so adapter and all that jazz from them. Dont buy TKO goodies from anyone else.

As for the crossmember mounted torque arm..thats good to know Chris. I have the stock setup right now...with a poly bushing.

im using a crossmember mounted torque arm, and it does occasionally make a clunk, usually only under really hard acceleration, but not nearly enough to annoy me. interesting its not just me.

Re: T5 to tremec Tko

86TA do you have any thumping noises from the drive shaft when your just cruising not on or off the gas but just steady? i think there is excessive backlash in my trans, as i can hear the driveshaft knocking, tried a different shaft same results, started with the transmission install...

Re: T5 to tremec Tko

Im wondering (havent driven or put the trans in) if its due to the drop angle that this trans needs to fit the tunnel. 86TA modded his tunnel so that the trans and engine would sit at the same angle as stock so he probably is set up the best. Im going to use the drop spacers and see what happens but if i start getting wierd noises i might open up my trans tunnel and do some modding too. I have a welder so i might be using it.

dont remember any offhand, but next time i have it out i will listen for this.

FWIW, i didnt notice any difference in noise after modding the tunnel, but its only been together for a few hundred miles (if that) since then.

Re: T5 to tremec Tko

got tranny installed a couple weeks ago and only have good words to say about fortes.i havent recieved my shifter due to a low supply or something but a flat piece of metal with out the counsole on is working.did not have to shorten driveshaft and after an hour of cussing did figure out the crossmember adapter.did take my local napa a couple days to figure out my u joint up front.all in all can not go wrong with fortes kit.did get some stuff i didnt need i think it is a reverse light switch and some other thing with two wires so i never even botherd trying to hook up my speedo

Re: T5 to tremec Tko

why does it need to be rotated? wont the t5 bellhousing bolt right up to the tko? why/ what needs rotated? but ik the shifter will hit the ash tray but just make your own adapter for the shifter that sets it back.

i was told you need the plate to rotate or it will sit to much at an angle if you check your old t-5 before you take it out it will be noticable that it must be rotated

Re: T5 to tremec Tko

just got the swap done. i didnt need the adapter plate. all i needed was the c6 yoke, conversion u joint, had to fab the exsisting crossmember and an offset shifter. my tko is the gm one with the 5th gear .82 not as tall as the other ones. tranny is on a slite angle but i was on a buget. didnt wanna buy the adapter and input shaft. works fine just gotta have the equipment to make it work.
