Re: rear widths are different
punctuation, spelling and grammar please.
you are talking about 10 bolts and 12 bolts, of course they will be a little different. Also depends on brakes.
how are you planning to use the 8.5" rear? how are you going to attach the torque arm?

ladder bars work, but you have to cut up the floor too and loose the back seats. Is it a track only car? of a street strip car?
a moser housing and axle package, even for the cost of about 1k, is still worth it when considering the fabrication and aggravation of making a non complaint rear fit the car. It will be stronger too, and whatever width you ant ti to be, shipped to your door.

Re: rear widths are different
If you find one of those old 12 bolts, sell it and buy an aftermarket bolt in diff for a third gen and probably still have money left over. Those old 12 bolts are getting very hard to find.

Re: rear widths are different
i missed that. If you have a 2nd gen 12 bolt, it can be worth big bucks, more if its early date coded
look into selling the 12 bolt, it may pay for the moser 9, and then some perhaps.
