help choosing and redoing a rear end
Hi, i went to the junk yard last Saturday and pulled a posi rear end out of an 82 rs (i think) camaro. and i took the cover off when i got home and found the gearing to be a 3.23? never herd of it before. and i checked how well the posi worked and it was really tight. but i want to put 3.73 gears in it. is that a good choice? and it had a disc brake set up as well so some one has be into that rear end before.

What does your car have in it right now? Chances are you will be stepping up already with the 2.23 gears. It should make a noticable difference while still giving you decent MPG.

Re: help choosing and redoing a rear end
From what I have read over the last few years here on this site the two most sought after combinations when referring to the stock 305 ,"auto".with street tires is the 28 spline Eaton Posi.with 3.42 gears and support cover. (Thats the one I have)The second one for the stock,305,"manual" trans.with street tires is the 28 spline Eaton Posi.with 3.73 gears and support cover. If you are pushing a lot of power/torque and want to run slicks at the track than the 10 bolt would not be a good chose because they don't tend to handle the pressure put on them . A 12 bolt or 9” would be the way to go.
