9 bolt help - rebuild

Want to rebuild my 9bolt rear, currently it does not lock I tried to fix it by adding shims but it still does not lock, maybe I did not put enough shims or maybe I just did it wrong.

Anyway, I decided to buy the already rebuild diff from 9bolt.com and just replace my old one and maybe i'l try to fix mine later.

The question is: I am trying to fully prepare for the rebuld which I will do in about a month, since parts are not easy to get here, I want to know what other parts do I need to replace to build a strong axle.

Currently I have a rebuld carrier and a good strong aluminum diff cover. Does anyone know the part numbers for the axle shaft bearings and seals for the 9 bolt or a link where to get them? Also are there any other parts I may need to order for the rebuild which I did not account for?

Get a good installation kit. This will have new differential and pinion bearings, differential and pinion shims, pinion nut and seal, crush spacer, gear marking compound and some other stuff that you will need. Get a GOOD kit, not something cheap. Yukon makes a good kit for the 9 bolt. I've used these many times.

Re: 9 bolt help - rebuild

Ratech Mfg is a great source for 9 bolt parts (Only place I could find carrier shims available separately)
http://ratechmfg.com/
Also, Randy's Ring and Pinion offers a good choice of parts.
And of course, 9bolt.com.

As a novice to rear ends I've found the 9 bolt to be both simple and frustrating to work on - they come apart nicely but don't like to go back together very easily. I've been struggling to properly re-install my axles now for months (I know that makes me sound like I'm clueless and maybe I am) after upgrading my brakes.

Anyway good luck!

I try to avoid Ratech stuff. There are much better kits available. DTS, Dewco, Tom's Differentials and Yukon are the only kits that I use. I haven't found any others that are as good as these.

Re: 9 bolt help - rebuild

Why would you avoid Ratech? Price, quality, service or ? The bearings I received were name brand and the price was equivalent to others. I ordered carrier shims on Sunday and received them today (Tuesday).

Just curious.

Re: 9 bolt help - rebuild

The Ratech differential shims are not as good as the others. They are harder to use and sometimes you can't get the thickness that you want because there isn't a good enough selection of shims in the kit. They also use generic nuts for the pinion and they use other cheap stuff in the kits. The kits that I listed have the best parts and shims in them.
