More T56 questions...
So i have been doing a ton of research, maybe not enough, and my main question is about the flywheel difference, i have a 2 piece rear main seal block with a stock T5 behind it, i found a 2 piece RMS flywheel that has the correct number of teeth, and it works just fine. now i know that the T5 has a 10.5 inch clutch and the T56 has an 11 inch clutch, is that the only difference? because I could use the LT1 flywheel if i had a one piece RMS. I need a 2 piece RMS flywheel for an 11 inch clutch. Am i correct? i know about the centerforce option that is quite expensive, i just wanted to know if that was the difference we are trying to overcome with the centerforce flywheel. i know its confusing, but i guess i wanna know if that is the difference. thanks for your help in advance.

Re: More T56 questions...
i almost PM'd you cause i saw your name on most of the threads i was reading, lol, i do have the flywheel from the old style camaros, like the 69, i do understand the difference in the clutch itself, and the linkage and push/pull design, also the difference in the one piece and 2 piece RMS, so you just plain ole cant use the other flywheel cause the 11 inch clutch is too large, and you cant use the original clutch for reasons we have already discussed, do i have it correct?

Re: More T56 questions...
No you cannot use any other type of flywheel on a T-56 (assuming it's the LT1 one with the "pull" clutch).
No stock flywheel will work. Period. You have to have a $pecial "conversion" one.

There's more to it than the clutch size and flywheel dia.

Sofa's right, you're gonna have to get the Centerforce flywheel. Amazon has it for $380 free shipping, so you could get Summit/Jegs to price match that to save a little cash.

Re: More T56 questions...
No trying to hijack but is this what I would need to put a LT1 T56 behind a 5.3 LS engine?

- the disc is larger in o.d. than the surface area of the flywheel.
- And the disc hub presses against the flywheel to crank bolts.
The LT1 T56 PP prevents use of a standard T5 disc as
- the disc hub is right in the way of the the pressure plate fingers and throwout bearing
- and if you turned it backwards and had it sprung backwards the hub spline sticks out enough to interfere with the throwout bearing
The LT1 T56 disc is
- too large to fit within the T5 pressure plate housing
- and too large to fit within the 1980s 10.75" Vette pressure plate housing
- the disc is larger in o.d. than the surface area of the 1980s Vette / LB9 flywheel.
The solid hub 89-96 Vette disc is
- too large to fit within the T5 pressure plate housing
- and too large to fit within the 1980s 10.75" Vette pressure plate housing
- the disc is larger in o.d. than the surface area of the 1980s Vette / LB9 flywheel.
- and would generally suck to drive as a solid hub clutch on the street, even if it did work.
The 89-96 Vette pressure plate and disc should bolt up to the heavier TBI flywheel and
- You still have a solid hub, annoying to drive clutch.
I took a few pictures of a couple clutch assemblies and my phone picture messaging is broken. If you'd like your LT1 T56 modified so you can run a standard flywheel and clutch, feel free to send me the front plate and bellhousing and several hundred $ in small bills so yours can be like mine. I can set it up for 82-92 F-body fork angle or 81-down F-body / Chevelle fork angle.
