Here are the symptoms:

• Sounds like a power steering pump/Supercharger
• Only whines in 1,2,D,OD,and R
• P, and N do not, except when it was extremely cold and had a high idle.
• The whine is loudest when sitting in gear at a light, or slow accelerating under about 3k RPM.

Now heres the thing: I have had 2 transmissions in the car in the past month, both did the same exact thing. The transmission in now has been completely rebuilt, front pump, everything. The only commonality between the two is the torque converter, and the filter.

I had about 1/4" clearance between the converter and flexplate, and so I put washers. No help.

I have come to the conclusion that it is either the torque converter stator bearing going bad, or the filter is clogged (which is more than likely true embarrassingly, but everything says this whine would be high pitch)

Should have a new filter.
Torque converter may be bad.
Verify fluid level is good.
