Broken 12 Bolt with Pics. need some advice
So my rear has been giving out for a few weeks and yesterday it blew up. There are no teeth left on the spiders or side gears/springs and retainers destroyed. It is a KTRE housing with a 3.73 and what I believe to be an eaton posi. I'm not making all that much power and I don't have slicks on it so I'm kind of surprised, but I don't know the history of the rear (I've definately beat on it for the past 2 years.)
So my question is what are my options right now? Is there a cost effective way to go about getting it back together? I just finished doing a HSR and megasquirt so money is kind of tight. Thank you guys

If the housing survived, buy a new posi and gears and have them properly installed.

Looks kinda like a Gov-Lock? (aka Grenade-lock) based on those itty bitty springs laying down in there.
What Alky said. All you can do at this point is throw all that away and replace it. I'm not sure what you have in mind about "options" and "low cost" and all that; things take what they take to get done, and parts cost what they cost, and there's not alot can be done about it except maybe shop around... which admittedly can be tough if you don't have alot of time to wait for something cheeeep to pop up. But looks to me like it's beyond the Superglue and duct tape stage, it's going to require some actual parts.
Avoid the Gov-Lock this time. Cheap parts cost ALOT of money in the long run. and sometimes, the "long run" isn't very long at all; in the case of a rear end, 2 years is hardly even broken in, it should have lasted 10-15 times that long if it was built right and good stuff had been used, instead of .... a Gov-Lock.

So I guess with all that junk in the housing I might as well put all new bearings and seals in too. Im kind of surprised how weak this gov lock was, I have a rather mild 406, and run nitto drag radials. I was thinking cheap like a lock right in the same carrier, anyone have experience with those? The car is not my daily driver which is why I was thinking to switch to a locker. So to go with an eaton posi, richmond gears, bearing kit, Im looking at around $1000? If not eaton what should I go with

It's not a Governor Lock, it's an Auburn. I'm not surprised that it broke. Get an Eaton Posi or a Duragrip and you won't have problems with it. A Lock Right will not work in that case.

If its a weekend drag type car, why not run a spool? I know that big gearhead typically oposes the use of a spool, but its not a daily, and spools are cheapish.

But spools are still dangerous, even for weekend cruisers. The parts that I have seen break were not on daily drivers, they were on weekend cars. 30 and 31 spline axles, axle studs and wheels broke from using spools on the street. These were in my customer's cars, not just some rumors that I heard. I actually had these broken parts in my hands. Nobody got hurt in any of these cars, but it could have been a killer.

Its likely that I will be going with an eaton posi. I'm trying to decide on what gear to run. I liked the 3.73 but want to go to a 4.10. It also seems like my powerband falls off around 5500 which means a 4.10 may be too much. This is my cam

its a 406 but shouldn't it pull to 6000? could have been a tuning issue maybe? I could always go with a 4.10 and put a taller tire on at the track. What do you all think is a good gear to run with the t56?

If you use the 4.10 be sure to get the 3 series Eaton Posi and the thick 4.10 gear set. If you use the 4 series Eaton and the standard 4.10 then you are stuck with 3.73 to 6.xx gears. If you use the 3 series you can still use 3.08 to 4.88 gears.

Eaton is good stuff, a cost effective axle upgrade are the Superior axle no issues yet. They arent Moser but seem pretty tough and price friendly. Welding axle tubes etc all helps some, others like a HD left cap and aluiminum cast cover with the preload studs on them . Sorry to hear it broke hope I dont experience th esame thing

how about 3.90s?
...I know eaton bought detroit and the truetrac, but do they still sell those under the detroit banner?
I see plenty of eaton posi's on summit, but i hear very bad things about the truetrac on tech...
You got the money for a wavetrac? and new axles? lol...
