I need help putting this bracket on please I beg you

700-r4
and I need to know how to install the bracket to the shifter cable Any one got any pictures of theirs they can show me? I've been attacking it for the past half hour but it never really locks in place, I can move it easily. When I tried shifting it in the car to see if I put it in right, it went from park to drive easily but shifting but from drive to park the cable just slides and doesn't really click. Please help me its really pissing me off. Thanks.

The tangs on the cable don't lock in to the bracket?

Re: I need help putting this bracket on please I beg you

I'm sure they do. What I mean is that I can't get the cable shoved up far enough for them to even lock. I tried all Kinds of shoving, twisting, etc.
Is it supposed to be this hard? I'm thinking of just taking the cable out of the car with the bracket and just mess with it in my house because I get headaches doing that with my head on the concrete floor after a while haha.

This is the transmission end of the cable? Stock cable or aftermarket?

are you asking what to do with the part circled in red? If so it uses the transmission pan bolts to hold it in place.

Are you 110% sure its the factory cable?

I went through 2 aftermarket cables myself before I bought a used GM cable.

No, I'm not completely sure, it's was there before I bought it. I'm gonna mess with this tomorrow and post a solution if i get one.

Aftermarket cables use a poor-quality plastic casting, and the tanks often need a little trimming with a knife or file to shorten the tangs so they'll open when the cable is bottomed out on the bracket. Even still, you might find that they don't want to "open" wide enough to securely hold the cable in place.

exactly this. and they'll pop out on you at the worst possible time. like when you're manually winding through the gears on the highway on-ramp, for instance.

Re: I need help putting this bracket on please I beg you

Well the thing is that it fit before I took it out of the bracket so I think I have the right one. Probably just me not doing it right.

Wrap a thick cable tie around it underneath the tangs to space them out and it'll hold securely.

Or buy a GM cable and not have to worry about it.
