Got a 27 spline 700r4...now what
Hey all,
So I picked up the 700r4 for my Firebird last weekend and didn't bother to look and see if it was a 30 to 27 spline shaft. Now, most people say that the earlier 27 spline shaft 700r4s are weaker and more prone to failure.
So now what?! Put the car together with this transmission and hope it holds up to the power of my 350 or keep looking for 30 spline newer trans?
EDIT: Yup, just confirmed it, pump cast 8654303

Forgive me as I am new to this. I will give you what I know.
1) The guy whom I bought the transmission from informed me that it was pulled from a V8 1984 Firebird.(I am trying to remember if he said TBI or TPI V8)
So how would I identify if it has a V8 bellhousing? I attached some photos of the bellhousing here.

That's a V8.
What are your plans for the car? If you've got some kind of performance in mind, I'd probably look for a later core and have it built up. If you're just trying to get a driver on the road, I'd just run it.

Just put the mild 350(and I mean MILD) in front of it and make it a weekend cruiser. FWIW it is a stock 350, RV Style Cam, Edelbrock Performer Intake and Holley 650. Do you think that will tear the tranny up quickly?

I think the bigger question is how do you plan on driving the car? Just cruising around town, DD, street/strip car?
