No thirdgens came with a Dana 44 from the factory. If it's on a thirdgen now, it can go on your 92. At this point it could have any gears in it, you'd have to open it up and look.

None came from the factory with a dana44, but it was a dealer option that could be ordered and used to replace a factory 10bolt that was broken. Not many of them made it out into the wild, but they do exist and are somewhat desirable. I believe SLP carried them for a while also.

Firehawks left the factory with 10 bolts, and had Dana 44s put in by SLP.

If it's really a Dana 44, grab it. It's worth the money but are you sure it's really a Dana 44?
The 10 bolt has a smooth diff cover. The 9 bolt has a rubber plug in the diff cover plus 9 bolts holding it on. The Dana 44 has 10 bolts in the cover but has a metal fill plug also in the cover.
There are no more "new" bolt in Dana 44 diffs for third gens. GM stopped offering them over the counter many years ago. Normally if you do find one for sale, it's worn out or if it's in good condition, it can cost almost the same as buying an aftermarket diff.
As mentioned above, they were never offered in a production car but were available over the counter through the GM Performance Parts Catalog GMPPC so any third gen "could" have a Dana 44 under it. The SLP Firehawk were the only cars that got them but were installed by SLP.
