series II posi into series III
I read the 10 bolt sticky (very well done) but still have a question. I have a 91 - 10 bolt 2:73 gear posi and have available to me a 91 - 10 bolt 3:23 open, so I beleive from reading the sticky that I cannot put the posi unit from the series II into the series III.
So I need to get a series III posi or differant gears for the Series II.
Correct.
Thanks
JC

Why not just switch the entire axles around?

I read that wrong. For some reason when I wrote that I thought you had an open axle and wanted posi.

Re: series II posi into series III
If you have a stock auburn posi it's really not worth putting in especially if you have to buy new gears and set them up just to use your old posi carrier.. You would be much better off buying an Eaton posi for the 3 series gears and your axles. You will be much happier with the outcome instead of going to all the expense and trouble of putting a worn out auburn in.
My stock auburn was worn out in less than 10k miles and no way of rebuilding it. I have an eaton now and it works pretty good for what it is. But the 10 bolt is inherently weak so I'm going to a 9" soon and selling my 3.73 eaton rear.

That's an Eaton Governor Lock, not an Eaton Posi. The Gov Lock will not hold up to abuse. I agree that the Auburn is not work reusing. Replacing it with a Eaton Posi or Duragrip would be better.
