UMMMM I prefer ARB air locker, locked for strip duty and open for street duty. but sorry they dont make them for the 7.5 ring gear.

That has noting 2 do with this post. And that may be ur choice but he was asking about 2 specific units. That being said, Each 1 has its good and bad points. The zexel has all gears so 2 speak in it so no clutches to wear out. But i believe its been stated that there is a more even torque bias applied to both rear tires with the eaton(assuming its new). personally i prefer the zexel due to its lower maintanence abilities. Im sure others will chime in with more details but that sums it up. Also search this topic as im sure its been discussed many times b4.

Re: Zexel vs. Eaton?
I had a zexel and got rid of it for an eaton. I like to autocross and do track stuff and with my race tires on in a hard or sharp corner with the inside tire unloaded or off the ground the zexel spins the inside tire just like an open diff. Apparently it needs some torque to the inside tires to lock up. My eaton does not do this. I couldn't wait to get rid of the zexel for this reason. The zexel was good in a straight line and an easy corner, but that's about it.
That said I'm upgrading from a 10 bolt 3.73 to a 9' ford. I'm curious to see what the ford rear and posi does in my car. At least I won't be so afraid of breaking it.

Re: Zexel vs. Eaton?
They came in the later ls1 rear ends from the factory. U can either swap out the entire rear end or find just the zexel unit used like on ebay or craigs list sometimes. They will bolt in the stock thirdgen rear as lon as u have the gears for a 3-series carrier i believe. Cant remeber at the moment. But if u just bolt in the zexel in a third gen rear it will need to be set up with the proper backlash/preload just like any other posi unit. I did both so now i have a spare zexel/matchin 3.23 gears just sitting n my garage. Shoot me a pm if ur interested.

Re: Zexel vs. Eaton?
After reading allot of threads and hearing nothing but good things about the Eaton posi. for a street/strip car. And after conferring with a Rear end shop with over 20 years of experience, this is the way I decided to go.
Here are some photos of my 10 bolt upgrade including a Eaton 28 spline posi, new 28 spline axles ,3.42 ring and pinion and LPW Ultimate cover.

Re: Zexel vs. Eaton?
i will stand by eaton forever. in a 4951 pound 2002 ext cab truck with a built 5.3 and a 175 shot o nitrous it never let me down. ever. even at several low 12 passes. and when i did street burn outs it was equal from side to side.

Re: Zexel vs. Eaton?
I like the Eaton best for street/strip use. If you don't like the way it works out of the box you can tune it to work better for you. If you need more lock up you can change clutches and springs, or you can make it a little softer if you want.
