Re: 4.10 gears

If it were only that simple, yes they will fit but you need someone experienced to set that rearend up. I have never seen gears bolt right in! There are some threads on here you should look up regarding this subject!

Re: 4.10 gears

probably going to need a new carrier too depending what gears you have in there now. If you're an RS with an automatic you've probably got 2.73's, so you'd need a new carrier. Don't forget a shim kit either.

Re: 4.10 gears

Depends what " type " gears they are.

There are two kind I heard of, but don't recall how to tell them apart.

There is a " series 2 carrier " & a " series 3 carrier ".

Maybe another, but I can't remember.

See if you can find the number that was cast into the rear end somewhere.
The gurus will be able to help you.

Re: 4.10 gears

I've got 4.10's in the stock carrier. Then again I've got a 1992 10-bolt which differs slightly from earlier years. 28 spline axles instead of 26-spline. I'm not sure what if any difference that makes in regard to the carrier.

Re: 4.10 gears

If you have 3.23 to 3.73 gears in it now then you have a 3 series differential, and the 4.10 will work on it. If you have 3.08 to 2.41 gears now then you have a 2 series differential and the 4.10 gears will not work, unless you have the special after market gears that have a thicker ring gear that is made to fit the 2 series.
