10 bolt PowerTrax/rearend rebuild question?

Anyone have or used a Power Trax, that could give some feed back on how it feels/sounds? I rebuilt my rear end over the winter, and installed a Power Trax as well. I finally got it out yesterday, and It seems to be working well. I have noticed the engage disengage sound when making corners. But other than that pretty quiet til I reach a speed of about 45mph in which I start to a faint whining sound. Is that normal and/or will it go away as everything starts to break-in since I also put in new gears/pinion, bearings and axles.

The whining is more the ring and pinion not the powertrax.

isn't that what you get when you go with 3.73 and higher gears?

no, the ratio has little to do with sound, its more of the setup and material the gears are made from. Performance gears are typically harder, and make more noise

i had one a while back, didnt like it, and for that matter, half the time it would 1 wheel peel. The banging was annoying, and i swapped my original open setup back in.

Re: 10 bolt PowerTrax/rearend rebuild question?

I originally had a 9 Bolt 2:73, and I swapped it for a stock 10 Bolt 3:73 Gov. lock. Then last summer I thought it's time to upgrade rebuild the rear end as a winter project so I started buying stuff here and there for the build.
Another question; how long is the break in period before I can start to beat on the rearend.

I thought Powertrax was supposed to eliminate one wheel peel?

It is. I have read that if you dont alot of beating on your rear end, mainly one wheel peels. It wears on the case and the clearences or tolerences go to hell for the powertrax unit cause the case is worn and lets the powertrax move more then it should.

Re: 10 bolt PowerTrax/rearend rebuild question?

The Lock Right works great if the clearance between the dirvers is corect. If the case is worn on the inside from doing one wheel burnouts then the clearance will be too great and the teeth on the drivers will not lock into the teeth on the couplers. The locker will not cause a whining noise when driving down the highway. That noise is coming from the gears or bearings.

Re: 10 bolt PowerTrax/rearend rebuild question?

I've had the No slip for about 5 years and I hate it. I've said it a dozen times and in a straight line it's awesome. But if you want to hit the twisties the banging and clicking can drive you nuts. I'll be getting an Eaton here shortly.
