How do you get a 700r4 to lock up just like factory when the oem ecm is gone?
I've been doing a bunch of research on this, reading various threads here as well as on 700r4l60.com etc,but haven't been able to come up with a definitive solution that will work.
The car is an '89 IROC originally had a 5.7, now I am putting in a 421 c.i. as well as installing that kit from EFI connection which changes it to run on a 2001-2002 LS2 PCM,coil on plug ignition etc. The new PCM does not control lock up.
I have looked at various kits...Painless,B&M,TCI however, they all seem to say that they only lock up the converter in 4th gear.I rarely use 4th gear, only on the highway to the race track or the freeways in town.It would lock up around 60 km/h (40 mph) in 3rd gear at cruise or light throttle.I would like it to operate just like oem factory & lock up in 3rd & 4th gears. It has a 2800 stall TCS Prolocker converter & 3:54 rear gears.
I've read some stuff about using a GM vacuum switch & connector PN 14014519 & 1210266.I work at a GM dealer & found that these are no longer available.
Just looking for a solution that works for sure & is seamless just like factory.I don't want a manual switch that I have to flip on & off all the time.If somebody has a wiring diagram that works that would be great as well.
Thanks for any input!

I was unaware that the converter locked up in 3rd. You're in 3rd @ 40mph? I'm learning all kinds of new stuff today.

Yes,under very light throttle steady cruise it locks around 40mph in 3rd.The car originally came with 2:77 gears but now has 3:54 with the original governor, which accounts for slightly early shifts under light throttle,"normal" driving.I just want the lock up to work like factory.

When i converted to carb, mine kept locking up around town when I didn't want it to, I wired a toggle to the brake switch so I only turn it on when im on the thruway.
