700r4 2-3 flare
is there a way to fix this and only the flare problem. i've read a ton of posts on this and everyone suggests the transgo kit. i only want to fix the flare if i can. i had tranny professionally rebuilt and the problem persists. it seems like what is happening is either the band releases too early or the 3-4 clutch is applying too late.

Re: 700r4 2-3 flare
i'm going to try a corvette servo. i don't know if it will help but its a good upgrade anyway. btw, while shopping for the servo i saw summit sells the servo for about $80. i was at my local tranny parts store (TPU) picking up some other parts and thought i would ask since i was there...$12.75...wtf why the crazy price difference? i'll update when i replace the servo.

Corvette servo fixed my 2-3 flare problem, but now the car does not want to shift until about 7 grand at wot.....Does not flare at all, and during regular driving it is perfect...i think we did something wrong on the install with the rod length.....Tom

Re: 700r4 2-3 flare
Maybe you could be more descriptive when you say 2-3 flare?
I don't understand what you mean
A 'Vette servo changes your apply pressure on 1-2 and 2-3, but should not affect anything else as there is no way to make a 700 shift into 4th @ WOT without being a nutcase
With you going up to 7K RPM I'm wondering what you have done to the Governor

Re: 700r4 2-3 flare
a flare is when the engine revs slightly during a shift. i don't know any other word to describe it...but anyway my flare seems to have gotten better by itself...? i'm gonna replace the servo anyway since i already bought it. thanks for your help. the servo controls 2nd and 4th for the band apply.

Re: 700r4 2-3 flare
I had the exact problem on my car.
After ripping the trans apart and noticing the clutches were worn, the sprag was broken and there was a spring broken in the back.
So, IMO, putting a servo will not help.
Its time for a rebuild.
BTW, mine had alot of good parts in it(including a corvette servo), but after putting 600+hp to it, it doesnt hold.

Re: 700r4 2-3 flare
What I gather from your description is you are sliding into gears instead of a firm shift
You say you had the tranny rebuilt, so that should take care of any other issues
What you want is firm shifts, correct? Yes a 'Vette Servo will 'help' with that. With a 'Vette Servo you can always go back to the stock one if you don't like it.
If you get a Stage 1 or 2 TransGo or other Kit installed, or install it yourself, you can only go back if you buy an original spacer plate as your stock one will be drilled out for the Kit's requirements.
Also, if you install it yourself, keep track of all the stock parts as the Kit will have you change many different springs and so on.

The Servo may not help
Too bad about your own Trans not holding 600+HP
I was guaranteed it would hold that and then some, but I paid through the teeth, and other orifices to boot

Re: 700r4 2-3 flare
the story of my car. it was a stock LG4. i drove it for 8 months after i bought it. tranny seemed fine. i had to let it sit for 1 year because of emissions while building a strong 355. after installing the 355 (about 400hp) i had a boat load of shifting problems. it would not shift at WOT at all. i installed a B&M shift kit which fixed the WOT shifts but then i noticed the 2-3 flare shift. then i had the tranny rebuilt but it didn't help the shifts at all. but it seems the more i drive it now the less i am noticing the flare which i can't explain. when i started this thread it was pretty bad. i have driven it hard the past couple of days now and i can't really notice the problem anymore.

Mines been screwed up since we did the servo job, but it did totally stop the 2-3 flare up..It just does not shift when it should at WOT...The factory tach could be off also...It has seen 7K (according to the tach) dozens of times.....Am going to pull the tranny soon, and have it rebuilt...Before the servo it shifted at around 5500 in drive at WOT..That was the only change we made at that time.....Could have messed something up, but I do not know what....My tranny flared for about 3 years until I put the Corvette Servo in..Also check your TV cable.........Tom

Re: 700r4 2-3 flare
The Corvette servo will improve the 2-3 WOT, "if" the 3-4 clutches are still in good shape. You can do separator plate hole size changes, if you want to improve the 2-3 shift, but first install the Vette servo.

Re: 700r4 2-3 flare
Well nearly 3 years later I'm having another 2-3 shift problem. This is with a different car, a 700r4, and a freshly rebuilt tranny. It has a corvette servo as the only modification. Here is what's going on. I'm wanting to shift at 6k (drag racing 1/8 mile) so I am shifting manually and I'm getting a very slow 2-3 shift. So slow I'm crossing the finish line between gears. Dana, what separator plate mods should I make? Thanks
