I broke my 700r4 and need some advice

I lost all forward gears in my tranny reverse works fine but that doesn't help much. No leaks no funky noises. I put my Danna 44 in then took it in to the guy that built it to have the shift points changed and the 1-2 slipshift taken care of ( this tranny is no longer on the ecu everything is done with the governor) when I got the car back it shifted extremely hard into second I think too hard. I put some sticky tires on the back and that made the 1-2 shift feel even harder. The second time I drove the car with the sticky tires on it it shifted into second with the normal bang but the motor spun up I let off the throttle because I thought I broke a driveline and was waiting for it to start slapping around but it didn't. I shifted into third and the car would accelerate so I thought that was weird when I stopped at a light it felt like it went into neutral and I had no forward gears. The tranny has about 3,000 miles on it ( in 5 years) The guy that built it says I am putting too much horsepower to it (I'm making about 550 at the crank 481 at the rear wheels). I think he screwed up when he put the trans go shift kit in to get rid of the 1-2 slipshift and had too much pressure going to the 2nd gear clutch pack. What do you guys think broke and what do you think caused it. Hey sorry this is an 87 Corvette 700r4

when this happened, if you didn't hear a loud grind or clunk, then I would suggest checking the governor, if that checks out, then drop the pan, you should see fragments in your pan... at least I think you will since I am talking from experience... ... if indeed you did break something internally, most likely it will be a planetary gear... you should look into the megaraptor or a transmission from I think ProBuilt, a vendor or supporter of this site, I think Dana is the contact... ...

Re: I broke my 700r4 and need some advice

The guy that built the tranny says he can build it to handle the motor. He said that it would be $300-$500 to do it but he also said that if it was his fault he would do it for free. I am pulling the tranny out now to bring it to him on Monday so I can watch him pull it apart I just need to know what I'm looking for so he doesn't try to cheese out on his word. I have built a 700r4 in the past but it's been awhile because this guy has been building my trannies for me. I know he can build it strong enough he built the tranny in my 72 512 cid Challenger making around 750 hp ( no dyno proof) and it's holding up fine. I just don't want to get ripped off

First I would have him check the governor on the car and make sure the plastic gear didn't break... when I had a governor problem on my car, it felt almost like it wanted to shift, kinda' like a lunge, but it didn't... took it in to a local shop and since they took my car in after hours, I only had to pay for a couple cases of beer... cost me about 30 bucks... rather than an hour of service plus the cost of the governor, which I think was used anyways... ...

try transmissioncenter.net ... and look at the level 4 mega raptor... it gives a list of parts that can be upgraded on a 700R4.... there are parts in the 700R4 that will crack under stress... I've gone through 7 trannies, my current tranny lost 1st and I believe OD, but after doing extensive reading, I am leaning more toward either a plugged valve body or a bad TV cable... car's is in my garage so I'm not very worried about it....
