Anyone use a T56 with 3rd gen hydraulics?
I'm refering to an LT1 T56 and wanna know if anyone is using thirdgen hydros with it? Originally I was using the GM unit that comes complete and bled, but now the slave appears to be leaking pretty good, and didn't really wanna get 4th gen hydraulics again since I've heard they have a reputation of having a short life. Plus, I'd like to run an aluminum slave which I can only find for a thirdgen, but not the 4th. Does anyone run a 3rd gen slave with a 4th gen master? I was thinking of trying this, but then it occoured to me that 3rd and 4th gens used different bore combinations between the slaves and masters, and wouldn't wanna be left without enough engagement/disengagment. And then, I was thinking of simply switching to a 3rd gen slave and master, since I'm using 3rd gen pedals, but then wasn't sure if those hydraulics move enough or too much for the LT1's pull style clutch. Anyone have any kinda experience with what I'm talking about?
Thanks in advance,
Tom

I just did the t56 swap, but used 4th gen hydraulics. I read somewhere while i was contemplating the swap that with the 3rd hydros you wont be able to fully disengage the clutch. My 4th gen hydro with 3rd gen pedals work amazingly. Best feeling clutch next to my mustang. Hard to press, but not too hard you know? Some cars ive had, had the clutches that feel all "featherey" I guess you would say. Sorta hard to feel them because they are so easy to press.

Thats what I will be doing. My understanding is that you use the master and slave that was made for that trans

I've read through some of the threads on the subject and most guys use a 4th gen setup w/ the T56 (including pedals) and 3rd gen setup for the T5. I may try the 4th gen hydros w/ the T5 and 3rd gen pedals only because I was given a new set of 4th gen hydros.

Re: Anyone use a T56 with 3rd gen hydraulics?
seriously doubt a full on 3rd gen setup would work, the plastic line wouldnt be long enough since the slave mounts the other direction on the lt1 t56.. i did read a long time ago that you can use the prebled 4th gen setup with braided line on a 3rd gen with t5 no problems..
the engagement problems come on from a different geometry between 3rd and 4th gen pedals since the pivot of the pedal to master cyl rod relationship is different

From what I've seen the 4th gen hydros on 3rg gen pedals works very well. All you have to do is get the little pin that holds the tip of the master cyl of a 4th gen clutch pedal and replace the pin on the 3rd gen pedal with it. Far easier than fitting the whole 4th gen pedal assembly in the car IMO. Anyway thats how I plan on doing it on my LS1/T56 swap.
