First off, are you dealing with 1 piece rear main seal to 1 piece rear main seal parts, or 2 piece rear main seal to 2 piece rear main seal parts, or mixing them up? The flywheel or flexplate has to match up to the crankshaft hub and have the correct external balance.

Also, from what I hear, a 700R4 needs to use the smaller diameter, with less total teeth, flywheel or flexplate. I've never checked this out, I've only read about it on this board.

you need a 153tooth flywheel. If the engine from the truck is newer than 87, you need the flywheel for a 1 pc rear main, if its older you need a 2pc rear main flywheel. The clutch is a 10.5" setup for an f-body, and it doesnt care which rear main you have

you are 100% right..but he needs to find out his engine and what year...
i have an 85 camaro with 350 from 78 chevy with 2pce rear seal...absolutely needed a 168 tooth flywheel because of my starter coudn't be moved to line up to the smaller 153 tooth flywheel...the T5 only has a bellhousing made for the 153 tooth flywheel....sold the stock T5 bellhousing and bought a lake wood bellhousing to accept the bigger flywheel.,,you really need to know what you have to make it work...found out the hard way!@!!!!

Curious about the bellhousing...
How did the Lakewood bellhousing fit? Were there any problems with it hitting anything, such as the firewall or exhaust?
What brand & size clutch did you end up using?
Do you use the stock clutch fork? what about the pivot ball?
Thanks for the info.

hi , i hope i can save you the grief i faced when doing this swap!!the lake wood bellhousing is designed for a T5 82-92 camaro/firebird v8 and the muncie 4 speed ....anyway, it's got 2 sets of bolt holes on the bellhousing for the right application..the one i got is designed for a hydraulic clutch too...you can use the stock clutch fork , but for the pivot ball you can't use the stock one,,not the same threads...use a lakewood adjustable pivot ball...the lakewood fits fine..it's heavy though and not cheap!...the clutch is a 10.4 standard 82-92 camaro/firebird clutch kit ...basically if you need to have the larger 168 tooth / 14' flywheel because of an older 350 and with starter with staggered bolt holes which can't be moved like me ...this is what you need to make it all work ,,i'm not finished...i am at the pedals now.....i did alot of research and really asked questions here on 3rd gen ..thank god for these guys here!!...ask me anything you need.

Re: 83 camaro with vin# 7

Good info.
I understand why you had to use the Lakewood, to use the starter for the 168 tooth flywheel.
My car already has a T5, and I don't really plan on installing a steel bellhousing. (but if I ever ran across a used one, I might consider it) I was just curious if there were any installation issues. It's good to know, in advance.
The steel housing limits damage from an exploding clutch and also allows an 11" clutch to be used.
Thanks for the info.

Re: 83 camaro with vin# 7

exactly, i had no choice to get the lakewood...i didn't get it for the safety or the looks of it...i really needed that bellhousing to fit my application...let me ask you this,,,what type of fluid in a T5?...mine seems to be a world class...can i use trans fluid in both WC and NWC ...but only trans fluid in WC?

Re: 83 camaro with vin# 7

Yes, you've got it.
You must use Dexron II (or III or IV) Auto Trans Fluid in a World Class T5.

Depending on who you ask or where you look, you can use either ATF or gear oil in a non-WC T5. I think the best advice is from iroc_zz, post # 20 in the T5 FAQ: to just use Auto Trans Fluid in all T5's for the best performance.
