Your Transmission Thoughts
I read the above sticky's and am still lost.
I have a stock T5 that I would like to replace. I would like a six speed.
The motor is a 5.0 LB9, stock. I do have the G92 package, so the rear end is geared at 3.42.
I think Borg-Warner is the original manufacturer of the transmission, but I may be wrong. Is there a better alternative?
If I decide to do a motor swap to a ZZ4 crate down the road, will it be interchangeable?
Should I just go for a G-Force and never worry?
I am dying to start beefing up the powertrain
I think the trans is a great place to start.

Re: Your Transmission Thoughts
Well i have to say indeed your correct if you want to beef up the drive line the trans is a great place to start considering you have the t-5. If you want to only consider stick shift (also im assuming must be overdrive as well) i see it as you have a few options. Now you could go with a G-force set up I have no experience with them and have seen no spec sheets as to what their designed to put up with so i cant really comment too much on them. I do know this though just looking at the situation your in trying to beef up your motor your having to change the trans maybe the rear axle all of these things because your car was not designed for that. Same thing with the T-5 their design was such that it was never meant to be a tough transmission. There may be ways to do it but i imagine it will still be a serious compromise and very expensive as it typically is when you try to modify a design beyond its original intent. To me a better choice woul be the Tremec TKO. Its a strong trans thats that was designed with the idea of being strong and they offer a version that is a direct replacement for the T-5 according to them. Another choice is the famed t-56 6 speed. Not a direct replacement but can be done. Also it can be done cheaper as theres a fair amount of used t-56s around where as there are really no used tremec TKOs for the most part being that its an aftermarket thing. Although considering its a +80k mile t-56 (and not cheap i might add) which may have been abused and on its last legs (considering what these transmissions came from, is a very possible scenario) vs a new tremec TKO which is also stronger than the T-56 and also supposedly a "direct replacement" for the t-5 im hard pressed to find a reason to not go with the tremec unless you really wanted a 6 speed or got a real good deal on a t-56. Just my take though.

Re: Your Transmission Thoughts
The TKO units are 5-speeds, not 6-speeds.. The T56-Magnum (based upon the new TR6060s and not the T56s) are good retrofit units if you don't have a source for a used T56.

Thanks for the lengthy reply. I will read this post probably about 20 times before I make a choice. I don't know why I am stuck on the six speed. It's one of those things that I have wanted a long time. How bad *** it is to have a 6th gear for cruising down the highway? To me that means a lot.
I think I will do some reading up on this. It seems a common swap, and I read the thread about the guy changing this out in the sticky.
I also read this on Wikipedia
I think I will do some reading and pricing on this. As technology continues, the newer stuff can sometimes be a little better. This is not always the case though. Sometimes manufacturers seem to go backwards.
I think I will read up on these two (TR-6060 / T56) and see which would suit my needs best. Depending on the complexity and price point of the install will probably make my decision.

The T-56 has been succeeded by the Tremec TR-6060 in many former T-56 applications, as well as applications requiring greater strength than the T-56 could offer.
TR-6060 is rated for 600 ft·lbf (810 N·m) of torque.

Re: Your Transmission Thoughts
what ever trans you decide to go with...make sure the bell housing matches up to the clutch fork sytem you have and the starter fits that bell housing as well...other wise its a hydraulic throw out bearing and high torque mini starter to fit the new bell housing which can be expensive, research intensive and labor intensive as well....I took the expesive route on a t56 magnum...and because I have no acces to a garage had to fork out $7500.00 for labor parts and fabrication
