Re: 700r4 lost 2nd gear
when the 700r4 goes south, gears just dissapear! your first gears is next, the 3-4 and reverse.
what year transmission are you dealing with? pre 89?
check your fluid, i bet its black and burnt, probably got hot at some point. is you get it rebuilt and it is a pre 89 trans, make sure they upgrade the sunshell inside the transmisssion as they are famous for breaking apart into a million pieces!

Re: 700r4 lost 2nd gear
I know that it is a multi-stage servo that activates 2nd and 4th. If the band is worn Im told I might be able to patch the trans with a longer servo pin to apply the band in 2nd gear.
Ive also been told I may have a damaged 2nd gear accumilator. Any thoughts on either of these possible solutions?

Go back to the area where it happened and look around.
Maybe even put up signs in the area.
LOST
2nd Gear
REWARD
If Found
Gonna be about as useful as them other options you posted
The only fix is big wad of cash

Re: 700r4 lost 2nd gear
I do my best
But really its time for a new trans or a rebuild.
Get one of them 0 intrest for yr low limit CC and get a trans.
ALso flip for a shift kit n higher stall TC.
Well worth it, Im happy to send Discover $35 a month for the Trans they bought me.

Good idea about the cc, never thought about it that way. So thanks. Also, Im shopping around and they're about $900 to buy, and then some pretty good coin for shipping. Yeah, I guess your right, I probably should just take it like a man and get a new one. Still tempted to search the junk yards, but I guess you get what you pay for. Ive rebuilt a turbo 350 before and a toyota 5 spd, just kinda intimidated by the 700R4. The 350 sat on my kitchen table for 2 months, till I could find the time to get it done, but was fairly simple. Anyways, thanks for your help Gumby

I thought maybe the band broke too, but I have all other gears including overdrive which shares a band with 2nd... its 0 degrees here with a -2 windchill, so Im not thinking I want to drop the pan right now, will maybe try for wed-thurs if it warms up a bit. Thanks for your info... and what are you asking for the trans?
