7.625 rearend question
are there any important differences detween LT1 rearends and LS1 rears? My uncle has an LS1 rear he said I could have, but I'm looking at a LT1 parts car. does one have better brakes, or a different E-brake? ect.ect.ect...

the ls1 rear, if it has discs, has better brakes. Other than that, no benefit of one over the other. They are both wider than what you have now though

Re: 7.625 rearend question
There's no difference in strength. In 1990, GM upgraded the 26 spline axles to 28 spline but internally, they're still all weak. You can get lots of different options such as posi/open, gear ratios, drum/disk brakes etc but the tiny ring and pinion is the same in all the 7.5/7.625 diffs.

Re: 7.625 rearend question
Thanks for the help. if I know the LS1 rear is a disc rear, but it doesn't have brakes on it, he went with a moser 12 bolt thats under his '98 Z28. I think the LT1 car I'm looking at also has a disc brake rear. but it would be complete, wich does bring down the cost factor a bit, because as most of us know, everything free is expensive, like free puppies! what dif would be better? an auburn or a torsen?

Re: 7.625 rearend question
what do you think is the simplest and cheapest rear end swap or upgrade for these cars. i have a stock rear with 3.73's and a after market torque arm but do some mild drag racing and i know this rear end is going to bust soon suprised its lasted so far. having trouble figureing something out because of the torque arm

It isn't cheap, but the Moser 12 bolt is a bolt in and you would have a very hard time breaking it. They start at about $2200 plus shipping with an Eaton Posi and 30 spline c clip axles.

You might be able to find one of the rare Dana 44 rear ends that were built for these cars. They are a little cheaper than the 12 bolt, but hard to find.
