Best clutch for T56 ???
In the process of a T5 to T56 swap, what's the best clutch to get and what's a good source. I have a stock T56 clutch, is it any good? Still trying to put all the parts together before the assembly process.
Thanks...Alex

McLeod is my choice.

The stock clutch is ok for now but if your engine is built up it'll slip soon.

I think that the Star Stage III is the best clutch below the street twin. I asked around at the camaroz28 board and the star gets rave reviews. It is supposed to hold 600 HP.

I just bought a Borg Warner Brute Power clutch kit. Anybody tried or heard of it? Got it new off a guy on Ebay for $275 (claimed he paid $450 for it when he bought it). T56 clutches seem to be a bit more than the T5 clutches. I talked to Borg Warner and they say it has about 10% more holding power then the OEM clutch. Probably not the best clutch on the market, but sounds decent for the price, don't you think?

No, heat and wear are what make clutches slip. Torque is horsepower, and Horsepower is torque. There's always a weak link in the drivetrain. Normally traction, but sometimes it's the clutch/ converter, sometimes it's the trans, and when you break stuff, it's the mechanical parts.

HP = 550 ft*lbs/sec
Torque = ft*lbs
HP = Torque*RPM/5252
HP and Torque are different. Torque and HP are to each other as distance is to speed.
Heat and wear to the clutch reduce the holding FORCE, or TORQUE of the clutch..

I just orderd a star II clutch for my t56
Here is the Email I got from them:
---------------------------------------------
Austin,
The Stage II, part number SC422, will handle 450 rear wheel hp, which would serve your combo easily. This is a great street/strip unit because it has a relatively light pedal and will not chatter. The kit comes with our high clamp plate, stage II disc, release bearing and pilot tool. $429.00
If you want severe overkill, but still maintain good daily drivability, you could also upgrade to the Stage III carbon, part number SC423C. This unit will handle 600+ rear wheel hp and still be smooth enough for daily driving. $529.00 kit price.
Let me know if I can answer any other questions.
