BW 9-Bolt rear

Does anyone know if a rebuild kit exists for the 9 bolts? Or even the limited-slip cones would be great! The cones are GONE in my 1989 formula. Im not putting much power through this rear like I am in my GTA so I see no reason to upgrade to a 12 bolt in this car. i would just like to get both rear wheels putting power down. Any help would be great!

He has new 9 bolt parts for sale, including new posi's and gears. He posts here on thirdgen.org, and has a 427 BB powered Camaro. Hope this helps!

The cones are gone? Who took them? If they are worn you can machine the lip of the cone and shim it. Check the tech article titled "Servicing 9-Bolt (Borg-Warner) Limited Slip Units" by Karl Hunter.

Speaking of 9-bolt rearends, I got an offer from Art Houser's Rear End Service for a gearset (ratio 3.27). They cost $175 + shipping. That's exceptionally cheap to me, as I've seen them usually being more than 300 (ratio 3.73). The ones I need are 3.27's, though.

Now, does anyone of you have any kind of experience in using this company's services ? Is their stuff OK or is it of some inferior quality ?

Thanks !

Sorry but 3.42's dont exist for the 9 bolt.... They did come with 3.45's however the only way to get them are to find a rearend out of a 5-speed car. I may be wrong, but I believe that they 3.45's only came in the straight shift cars. I also think that no one makes new 3.45's either, so they would have to be Salvage yard sourced. BTW, at one time you couold order 3.70's from SLP but I havent seen those in quite some time...

I can get brand new OEM tooled 3.45 gear sets for both the 0575 and the 0578 housings. I can also get 11 tooth 3.73 (not the weaker 10 tooth 3.70 which everyone advertises as 3.73 ), 3.2x, and 4.10 gear ratios. I also have brand new OEM tooled series 3 posi carriers. I also have some other stuff that I will post more info on soon Oh yea, and some used stuff too.

Currently installing 3.73's into my 9 bolt (YES, it is a 9 bolt & YES they are 3.73's, not 3.70. I currently have 4.10 gear sets and new series 3 posi carriers for sale for 9 bolts )

Hey, Miles or anyone else. I have heard that if you just use the spacer instead of a series 3 carrier it is not as strong. I was wondering how much weaker it is and if their are any problems with operation if you go this way. I would like to go to higher gears but the cost of everything including the series 3 is pretty steep. I was just wondering how reliable it would be if I kept my series 2 with a spacer.

Thanks

Ben

The gear manufacturer does not recommend using a spacer so I don't offer one, but yes it has been done.
