corvette t56 transaxle
i dont know much about the corvette transaxle setup. Is it the same transmission as the f bodys? if i locate the right bellhousing and tailshaft can i install one of these in my 85 iroc?
I only ask because i have the opportunity to buy one extremely cheap. Any help is much appreciated as always.

Re: corvette t56 transaxle
The transaxle is only in the '08+ C6 Corvettes & would take a LOT of fabrication to fit. Your talking about replacing the entire rear axle, entire rear suspension AND the transmission.
Hope your fabrication skills are up to that task. Not to mention, the PCM controls of the transmission operation, which would require a lot of tuning programming to figure it out, if it is even possible to do.

i am wondering if i disassemble the transaxle, can i just use the t56 transmission ands put an lt1 bellhousing and tailshaft on it and do the standard t56 swap that is covered on this website in great detail.
Or is the corvette t56 different than an f-body. I mean besides the obvious transaxle, is the base transmission usable for my application?

Re: corvette t56 transaxle
I doubt that your gonna find much useful info here, on swapping the guts of a transaxle into a standard case. Doubt your gonna find much info on doing that anywhere, on such a new item.
Good luck!

Re: corvette t56 transaxle
'99 or '09?
'99 wouldn't have a transaxle, just a standard transmission bolted to the engine.
If its off a '99, just swap the whole transmission in, but you'll hafta get aftermarket torque arm mount.

Re: corvette t56 transaxle
did you say $250? buy that thing. you could probably make it work somehow. torque arm that mounts to the frame and a custom made transmission crossmember. then it's just a coulple other things, it'd be worth it.

Re: corvette t56 transaxle
You can swap all the internal parts onto a GTO mainshaft ($200), get a LS1 Fbody Bellhousing/mid-plate/tailhousing, (~$700 new) and then you'll have a nice LS1-fbody transmission. The '99 C5 still had paper lined blocker rings, so you should expect another $500 rebuild on it.
This will get you a very nice transmission, but still alot more $ than most folks will want to put out. If you can find a LS1 Fbody T56 with broken internals, it makes the conversion much more cost effective... I've converted a dozen C5 units to Fbodys now.

Re: corvette t56 transaxle
I've picked up quite a few $200-$250 C5 units, for the main reason that they are only good for other C5s, or as parts donors.
Probably keep looking for an LT1 T56...

yeah it was on craigslist chicago.
i have been having great luck with craigslist so far. everypart of my project (except the vortec engine i bought from a member here) has been sourced from craigslist. Its been cheap and so far i havent had an horror stories. I have heard a few though so im sure its just a matter of time.

He assembles the C5 gears onto a GTO mainshaft, installs it into the F-Body T56 case after doing all the measuring and preload-shim configuration, and you end up with a very smooth shifting gearbox.

Re: corvette t56 transaxle
The OP is looking for a LT1-T56 for a SBC setup. The Hybrid would only work on a LS1 motor swap or with the adaptor plate to mate to a T5 setup.. So while the Hybrid is the bomb, it's NA for this setup.
