Aluminum Driveshaft differences??

Hi guys. I have a local guy selling an aluminum driveshaft he parted out from his junked GTA. I think his was an 88 my TA is an 87. Anyway, is this driveshaft similar to the summit aluminum driveshaft? I never really thought there might be differences. Anything I should be cautious about before buying it? He wants $100 bucks and it seems like a great deal. Might give me weight reduction etc right?

A hundred is a decent buy. The shaft is the so-called 1LE shaft (RPO JG1). It should have a tag at the rear of the shaft with a GM part number: 10085375. It may require another U-joint to fit your 87. If so, CarQuest 3-3130 should do the trick. Occasionally, a balance weight will be missing, but you'll clearly see where it once was.

The 1LE aluminum dr shaft is 2 3/4" dia and the Summit one may be 3".
As said a $100 is a fair price if it is in good condition otherwise I would pass on it (new end yoke & rebalance will not make it a bargain). Just keep searching for a good one (4th gen 3" dia aluminum ones also work).
