Blown out posi?

Im just wondering if it is possible to blow up the posi so it would act like open gears. If so, what kind of symptoms would you expect to see? I was driving and nailed it around a corner, and there was a clunk, and i thought i felt only one of the tires spinning. Well, the last thing i need right now is to rebuild a rearend, so im hoping for some positive answers.
thanks,
jeff

A locker unit will do that around a corner. The clunk is the teeth disengaging, then 1 tire will spin.
If you have a clutch type posi, when the clutches wear out, it just acts like an open rear. I'm not sure of the cone type symptoms. If you are positive that you have a posi, and not a locker, then a clunk should worry you. I would look into it asap.
