Hey since you guys seem to be the most knowledgeable about transmissions, I've got a question. My 700r4 has been slipping for some time now, and its got to the point where ive been manually shifting for about a month. For about a week now a clanking sound was coming from what seemed to be the trans/flywheel. Last night i was gaining speed on a highway, and i shifted into third and i heard "CLUNK CLUNK BANG" and when i hit the gas it felt like i was in neutral. I rolled into a gas station, and my car stalled. Now when I try to start it, it sounds like the starter spins and just doesn't catch anything. Im just wondering if my trans is totally destroyed, if the flywheel exploded, or whatever... just drop some ideas at me so i can take a proper course of action with my IROC. Anyone is welcome to respond... thanks in advance...

Jack

I guess I'm obligated to answer this since the others are going to cry over the title.

Sounds to me like the flexplate has broken. You should be able to remove the Torque Converter sheild and take a look at it. You will probably see that the ring gear is no longer attached to the crank. That would be my guess.
