My son and I are working on a 88' camaro project! It now has a built 355 and TH400 trans! Any one have a drive shaft setting around for this application? Stock rear end!

Any information on where to get one,,, would be appreciated!

Re: Need: Drive shaft for TH400 swap

i have the same set up in my car.. (basically) measure how long of a drive shaft you need, and head to a you pick it junk yard. find a drive shaft that is the correct length and swap the yokes from the old drive shaft to the new one. the drive shaft i found (i think) came off of a ford truck or van so i had to get new u joints to make the chevy stuff work with the ford stuff. all in all i think i spent 40 for the drive shaft and anther 100 for the new u joints and yoke, and to have it balanced...

Re: Need: Drive shaft for TH400 swap

I contacted the following company and they were awsome! Told him what I wanted to do and he looked it up in about 30 seconds! This yoke is a little long so you can cut it to the length you need! It is made that way just for that reason!
Here is the link! http://www.drivetrainspecialists.com/index.html
The part number for the TH400 swap is 40032054. The price is $68.00 plus shipping!
This is made for the stock replacement u-joints!
I hope this thread helps more of you gear heads!!!
Thank you for the replys to my post!!

Although probable, it's unlikely you'll find a driveshaft that's close to the proper length. The third gen driveshaft is very short compared to other cars because of the short 101" wheel base. The TH400 needs an even shorter driveshaft although not by much. Using a non GM driveshaft means using conversion u-joints.

You're going to need a slip yoke for a TH400. It's a larger diameter output shaft for the transmission. Finding that slip yoke will be hard enough. You can't use a bolt on yoke commonly found on pickup trucks with a TH400 and a 2 piece driveshaft.

Factory driveshafts are not very strong. It's better to buy an aftermarket driveshaft or have one custom made. I had mine custom made and it uses 1350 u-joints.

GM u-joints are called 3R. Ford uses 1310 or 1330.
