700R4 Power Capacity
I'm putting a 355 in my TA in place of the 305 this week, and one thing I've been concerned about is how much power the 700r4 can handle. The guy I bought the 355 from said it should make anywhere from 350-400 horses, and I figure about the same ft-lbs. I know my 305 made about 250 ft-lbs, so this would probably be around a 100ft-lbs increase.
When I drive, I like to run my car hard, very hard (i.e. dragging off the line every chance I get). So I'm concerned that the transmission won't be able to handle that kind of power increase, especially with me running the car so hard.
Can anyone tell me if I would have a problem with this? Or will the transmission be able to handle it?

Re: 700R4 Power Capacity
stock, high-mileage 700s are not very strong, especially the earlier years. 305s can kill them. You can get 700s built to hold over 600 ft-lbs. Alot of these guys will tell you to plan on swapping to a TH350, but for the same money you can get a level 2 700R-4 from BowTieOverdrives. I bought mine used, and have put 170,000 miles on it since, some of those in my '88 that ran low 10s at the dragstrip. That was long before I found that they advertise on this forum.
