Installed a B&M shift kit. Upon completion had no 3rd or 4th gear. Adjusted the TV cable several times to no avail. I also replaced the throttle valve linkage in the trans as it was bent.

After reading several articles stating the accurate way to adjust the tv cable is with the pan off. When the throttle is closed the lever does not touch the throttle valve plunger and does not push it in all the way when the throttle is wide open. Also the throttle valve plunger slides back and forth.

This trans is hooked up to 454 with a raised intake. At wide open throttle I can still pull the tv cable by hand about 3/4 inch.

When I reposition the cable bracket back to the next intake bolt, the cable is too short.

Do you think this is the reason for no 3rd or 4th gear?

When I pulled the pan down, there is some black residue in the bottom of the pan, but no particles.
