Can I install a second gen rear in my third gen?

I have a 1992 Camaro RS with 2.73 rear. My friend is scrapping his 1978 Camaro Z28. He will sell me his factory 3.42 Posi rear. Will it fit and how much is it worth?

No. (if you are switching the whole housing)

2nd gen rears are leaf spring...

3rd gen rears are coils...

You can take the gears. Better take it to a shop to get them installed unless you are good at matching it all up.

you cant use the gears either the size of the ring gear is larger on 70-81 cars that's assuming it's a 10 bolt

Nothing is the same except maybe some brake parts (but I doubt it). The 2nd gen is an 8.5 inch corporate 10 bolt diff and the third gen is a 7.5 10 bolt diff. Same if they happen to be a 12 bolt or 9 bolt respectively.

Currently installing 3.73's into my 9 bolt (YES,it is a 9 bolt & YES they are 3.73's, not 3.70. 4.11's to follow soon )
