torque bar bushing
I've found out that it's the torque bar bushing or lack thereof that is causing the bangs when I am slowing down, but autozone doesn't have one for me to purchase and the dealer keeps hanging up on me.
Does anyone know where I can get one? Thanks

Re: torque bar bushing
Autozone should be able to get one for ya....but a schucks/checker/o'rielly auto parts, NAPA....anyone should be able to get one....but there are two different ones for torque arm....it's in the shape of a W....one with the W facing left and one with W facing right....make sure you look and order right one....I ordered mine online through I believe Energy suspension....or at least you can get a part number through them...I bought a poly urethane...better than rubber. hope that helped.....oh don't buy from dealer..they way way way overcharge..

Re: torque bar bushing
a parts store can get you a stock rubber one, or you can get the aftermarket urethane one for about $20.
1984 and before was facing one way, 1985 and after was the other model. So just tell them you want the one to fit a 1990 Camaro.

Re: torque bar bushing
Just put the car on jackstands and support the rear end w/ a jack, when you install the arm make sure that the rear end is near level w the tranny, it's not that hard...

Re: torque bar bushing
I'm gonna order it off of jegs, but can anyone tell me if my year has the bushing with the lips facing toward the driveshaft or away from the drive shaft?

Re: torque bar bushing
It'll only go in one way match the W to the torque arm... Just looked on mine, the lip faces the rear of the car...

Re: torque bar bushing
I checked under the car today, but i don't understand which one to order because it says "with the lips facing the drive shaft or away from the drive shaft" i looked and the torque arm is on the driver's side of the differential and the torque arm bushing is near the middle of the car, near the tranny mount, so it goes from the rear diff to the middle of the car where it connects to the torque arm bushing, but how can it be facing the drive shaft if it runs parallel to it?

Re: torque bar bushing
I got the part, unfortunately it was the wrong one, they sent me the wrong part. anyway, the instructions said i had to either drill out or cut off the rivets on the bracket, is this necessary?

Re: torque bar bushing
Bump
Anyone know? The correct part will come tuesday, should I just try to shove it in there anyway? I mean c'mon, the rivet sticks out like a millimeter or two, a little squeezing can't solve that?
BTW it was hell removing the old rubber bushing, I had to burn it to soften it up and scrape it off with a variety of exacto knives

Re: torque bar bushing
Omg, it was horrible i tell you.
It's the hottest freaking day of the year here and california, and it also happens to be the day the CORRECT part comes.
That torque arm has so much tension, i had to pull and hold it as hard as i could down to fit that little bushing over it, only to find out that it's just too freaking fat. I had to take it off, do some "fabricating" to the bushing (cutting about a centimeter off the top and half a centimeter off the side with a steak knife) to fit it in.
On the upside it doesn't clunk when i downshift anymore!
and it feels like the car jumps forward when i step on it, and the tires keep chirping when i pull out.
