I doubt you would hurt them with your current setup.

Put slicks on and you'd be suprised how little power you need to break things. It's all about tolerances and design. Stock rear and small axles were not designed to handle the abuse of super traction and a powerful engine. Kind of why 10bolt is the most popular .
If you don't plan on drag w/slicks then I wouldn't worry about the axles yet. Think about the tranny and if you want a happy buttdyno, get some 3.73 gears and a posi.

Probably break the ring and pinion before an axle would snap.

That's more of what I was thinking. I run aftermarket 28 spline axles in mine. I expect to break the gears before I break the axles.

Naw. The spider gears in a stock carrier are usually first, followed by the axle splines, then the bearing cap, then ring&pinion...

Order of weakness is subjective and learned more than once through uncontrolled testing...

My stock 26 spline axles have more than 100 passes in the 12.50-12.70 range and about 12 more (recently) in the 11.60-11.80 range. it has Richmond Gears and an Auburn minispool, all else is stock. The car pulled consistant 1.74-1.76 60' with the old emgine and is pulling 1.62-1.64 with the new 383. It may break next weekend, but it has been a good rearend despite the fact that they have a terrible reputation. Car-Pro Motorsports has even built several 10 sec cars with 7.5 rearends but I think most of those had 28 spline axles.
