Re: new TCI 4L80E 6spd
Guess, $3500+?
A 6 speed conversion was available years ago for the 4L80E. It split the gears with the OD. Using OD for extra gears isn't a true 6 speed just like a T56 isn't a true 6 speed.
Instead of 1, 2, 3, 3-OD (4th), you get
1, 1-OD, 2, 2-OD, 3, 3-OD
The idea of paddle shifters isn't hard because the transmission is electronically controlled.

i'll take your word on how they do it, cause i dont know(the old auto shift=voodoo). i found the gear ratio's 3.08,2.34,1.60,1.30,1.00,0.75 . but in my(twisted) way of thinking IF they can make the shifts up/down quick and solid enough you could have the potential for a poor mans close ratio sequential shift suedo manual trans. kinda, maybe, sorta. now all you need is one of you big brain guy's to work out the old clutch/hydro(poor mans lenco)angle and presto; told ya i'm twisted. doable or am i smokin rope? make a neat auto-x/roadrace trany.

If you watch Top gear or any similar performance show like that, you'll notice everyone hates paddle shifters. They just arent quick enough.... The shift itself may be lightning quick, but its pointless if it occurs 2-3 seconds after you hit the paddle.
If you could make it quick enough, it would probably be pretty neat.
Theres a youtube video of a guy who installed a paddle shifter for his 69 camaro on a TH350 i think. Look at the ridiculous amount of time it takes the shift to happen after he his the paddle.... He still loves it, but i think its joke.

Re: new TCI 4L80E 6spd
Splitting the gears with the OD does give you a different gear ratio between the normal gears but even though they claim a huge HP rating for the transmission, the OD gear used to split the gears is still weak.
The idea of converting a 4L80E into a 6 speed is for truck towing. Being able to drop down half a gear while climbing hills keeps the engine in the powerband better.
There's no listing for the 6 speed converted 4L80E on the TCI web site but the 4L80E's that they have listed are around $3200 plus you need the computer to control it.
GM does have a 6L80E but again, it's designed for truck use.

From what I found around $5k for the complete kit. Looks like it can use any 4L80 converter.
Gear ratios: 3.08, 2.34, 1.60, 1.30, 1.00, 0.75.
The only problem is that you cannot use a shifter, you have to use the paddle shifter. TCI said they are comming out with a trans-brake for this unit
