T-5 syncros
Sorry i dunno if i spelled that right. Anyway, I have a '88 IROC with a T-5. My research on here tells me its a W/C. I'm not sure if it has a syncroed reverse. Has anybody rebuilt this transmission and know if it does? I'd like to buy a "syncro kit" before i tear it apart and hopefully i can do it in one or 2 days. Can anybody tell me if reverse is syncroed? W/C? Lastly a good website or store that sells a fairly good (price and quality) "syncro kit"? Thanks for any help.

Re: T-5 syncros
Rockland Standard Gear is a good place for manual transmission parts. They know these transmissions very well. Some WC T-5s had a syncro on reverse and some don't. The tag will probably tell. Have the tag in your hand when you call Rockland.

Re: T-5 syncros
If the car was originally a T5 from the factory and is the original trans, then yes it should be a WC. Those came out for the F body in 88. Does your trans grind a bit when you put it in reverse, even if you're fully stopped? If so, try holding in the clutch, put it in first, then put it in reverse. Reverse doesn't have syncros on these trannies.

Ya it grinds pretty good when you put it in reverse. What i usually do is put it in 5th then straight down to R. Usually helps. I was just going to replace it since i was going to have it out. Also 3rd is starting to give me s*** too now.

Re: T-5 syncros
The 3rd gen, f-body T5's never got the synchronized reverse gear. The only T5's I know of that got it for sure are the newer Ford Cobra T5's. Seems like it became more of a standard option in most T5's from about the mid-90's on up. Btw, IROCZ28KevinZ's advice on putting it in 1st gear and letting up the clutch pedal just enough to nudge the car forward, then pushing the clutch back in and shifting into reverse really works. I do it all the time with the old Muncie 4 speed in my 69 Camaro. Reverse grinds every time in that car unless I do that. Go to Ebay and look up Ebay store "The Gear Box". They sell synchro kits for both WC and non-WC T5's for a decent price. You might also want to buy a T5 service manual from them while you're at it. If you have the manual and access to a shop press, it's not real difficult to replace the synchros.
