Rebuilt Rear End ????'s, Should it be loud
how hard or easy should it be to turn the rear after a rebuild
also with fluid in it should it be making any sounds like a knocking, kinda sounds like its making a sound everytime each gear meshes....i know this cant be normal
also it acts like it has a full spool in it, if someone holds one side (lets say the left axle still) that the pinion wont even turn or the other axle
or would this be sings thats its tech a LSD....i dont know if it is or not, i tested to see if it was LSD when i got it, one wheel went clockwise other went counter (sign of a open diff), not that its rebuilt it seems like its got a full spool........Im lost here, kinda need to know before i decide to bolt this thing in the car

If it has new bearings in it and the preload has been set correctly then it will be a little hard to turn. 20 inch pounds of pinion bearing preload will make it hard to turn at the axles, almost more than you can turn with one hand. When you get a few miles on it the bearings will loosen up quite a bit and it will be much easier to turn.
Did you have it rebuilt with the original differential or did you replace it with a limited slip of some kind? If you had a new limited slip (posi) put in then you will not be able to turn either axle without the pinion turning, or without the other axle turning.
As for the knocking, this could be a sign of improperly installed gears. If the contact pattern on the gears is not set correctly then the gears will make noise. Some new gears do this no matter how you set them because they are made in China now and the quality SUCKS. If you bought high quality gears and they are set correctly then it shold not make any noise. I recommend that you remove the cover and check the contact pattern. Take some pictures of the pattern and post them or email so I can see what it looks like. You might want to take this back and have it fixed before you run it.

it was rebuilt with the original, and like i said i did the wheel test on this axle before i picked it up at a freind and it did the open diff crap, unless the clutches were wore slap out, i need to get ahold of this guy, it really only makes the sound when you turn it foward, if you turn it in reverce its pretty quiet, you think its something that will quiet up after a few miles?

Dumb question maybe but is there any fluid in that? That should not be making that sound. Dont run it like that.

No c clip? Is this guy trying to kill you? Gear noises don't go away, they just get worse. Get it fixed now while you have a chance. There is something screwed up in there.
I recommend the Eaton posi for most street/strip use.

Can I recommend the Eaton again? The Auburn is not as good and you will be much happier with the Eaton. Well worth the difference in price.

Wow that sucks, you need to find that guy and have him fix everything or fix him. How much did he charge to do the rebuild anyway?

Re: Rebuilt Rear End ????'s, Should it be loud
I feel your pain. I got rid of a perfectly good 10 bolt 3.42 posi for a 9 bolt 3.27 posi because it was a better ratio. Came to find out the posi was worn in the 9 bolt and the 10 bolt had been recently rebuilt. But by that time the 10 bolt was already sold and i was stuck with a worn 9 bolt. Im rebuilding the posi right now. Its not in too too bad of shape so i should be able to bring it back to good as new if not better than new standards.

Re: Rebuilt Rear End ????'s, Should it be loud
the c-clip was just bad, found it in the housing, he came and looked at it with me today and yea it needs some shims, we both figured the souns would go away with fluid in it, but o well cant wait to get it back on the road!!!!
