T56 inspection cover?

Hey guys, I've been running my T56 now for the past year although I haven't been driving the car much, I don't have an inspection cover on the T56. It is to my understanding they don't make such a thing anymore. Is this ok to run this way? I haven't had a problem yet. Just wondering what you guys think on this.

Re: T56 inspection cover?

you mean the inspection cover on top forward of the shifter?, thatcover needs to be in place or you will ruin the transmission fast, that is a strait shot to the internals of it, and the way a T-56 is made (extreamy tight clearences) it dosen't tale much in terms of grit and grime to ruin it fast, my suggestion, if they don't make it anymore is to take the dimentions if the cover to a local machine shop and have them make it out of some aircraft alumnium, IIRC mine is a perfectly flat pice W/ RTV on it as a gasket

Re: T56 inspection cover?

hes talking about the inspection cover on the bellhousing.

I dont have one either, and so far so good. Ive driven on alot of gravel too, but i dont really think you need it. Im going to keep looking for one anyway, because it would make me feel better to have one.

I couldn't find one either, so I made one. Seems to work ok. No problems so far with it.

Amen. I've been looking for quite some time. I have some aluminum to make one. Do you know the bolt size for the cover off the top of your head? I would need to buy some of those. Thanks.

Re: T56 inspection cover?

The bolts are a self threading type, nothing you would find in a hardware store. I was able to tap them 6mm, but the threads aren't full engagement. The hole is oversize for a proper thread fit for 6mm, but it works. Just don't tighten them down real tight.
