type FA in a 700R4
It was recommended that I put type FA fluid in my 700R4, and I'm looking for other opinions about it. I was told that it would make it shift better. Any advice? Has anyone else done it?

From having 30+ years in doing this, I never suggest you use Type "F" fluid in any 700R4/4L60E. The type "F" fluid was designed to be used with Asbestos type of clutches. They have not been in use since 1977. Since then Ford and GM went with a Dexron type of fluid to be used with the paper type of clutches that were being used from this point. The Type "F" fluid does not have the holding capabilities of the Dexron fluid in dynamic applications. That is it does not hold as well on a "shifting" application. This is where it would be needed the most. I have seen this personally, and from Borg Warner, Raybestos, and Alto have seen this also from there dyno tests. Dana
