Anyone try the TCI constant pressure valvebody?

Got a buddy thats looking into buying one of these for his truck, he is constantly cooking that crappy 700r4 and figures this might help (though i keep telling him he needs to run something other than a stock trans that a squirrel cage can blow up)

So i think i finally have him convinced on buying a half decently built 700R4 and he asked me about this valvebody. First time ive ever heard of it (i dont run any 700R4s) and figured if anyone would put them to the test it would have been someone on here!

Heard of it. Basically it keeps the line pressure high and doesnt use the TV cables input and finnicky adjustment from regulating the press. But you still need to use the TV cable for shifting purposes.
Im wondering about this VB myself as well from someone who has used one.

My only concern with this is that at constant high line the trans would be unnecessarily beating it self to death at part throttle for no reason

I agree with performabuilt here. But it is worse, it has a constant apx. 185-195 pounds of pressure which is not enough for a good WOT shift, but way to much for a good part throttle shift. The TransGo Shift kit that I offer will give you the best of both worlds, performance and longevity. Dana

Re: Anyone try the TCI constant pressure valvebody?

I called TCI about it, and this was before I found out the price, But basically, they say it can never run below 185 psi, but at WOT with the TV properly adjusted, and a good pressure regulator spring (theirs, of course) it can exceed 200. It of course works better with a 13 vane pump, which is for cars with engines that exceed 5500 rpm. For that money I can adjust the cable correctly then take my girl away for a weekend.

This is nonsense....
In Rick Abare's 1996 TA, I use the 7 vane setup, and it shifts at 7,400rpm and runs 9.50-9.60's at 138 -142mph. Dyno comparisons show no advantage of going to a 13 vane setup where a 7 or 10 vane was originally. The 13 vane pump is different in more areas than just the 13 vane change.
If theirs (TCI) uses a TV cable setup, then you should be able to get 225-235psi. with the right boost valves. Dana

ok... i guess ill tell him to ditch that idea!

Ive also been pestering the chit out of him to get a proper shift kit, but the 'tard always insists on buying cheap junk and spending more in the long run...

Re: Anyone try the TCI constant pressure valvebody?

So why is everyone hyping the 13 vane? Seems you're the first person I've come across who has tried them all, and isn't hyping the 13 vane. Is it simply an attempt at more profit? Because if so, my lady love would real disappointed to lose her weekend away. Anyway, what application might find benefit from a 13-vane? a pickup towing a trailer?

Re: Anyone try the TCI constant pressure valvebody?

The 13 vane setup made several changes. (1) 13 instead of 10 vanes. (2) The slide is different in that the oil entrance and exit to the vanes is in a different locations. (3) The back half of the pump (starting in 1997) has different oil entrance and exit slots. The pump will retro fit back to 1995 when PWM was introduced. The advantages of the 13 vane pump were "three fold". Quieter, smoother rises in oil pressure, and is more stable at lower rpm's (less pressure fluxuation) when under a high load. Dana
