Super T-10 Grinds in second

Ok up until like the past few days my Z has shifted fine, then one night she decided she wants to grind into second(unless I baby it in) and from 3rd to second downshift no matter what. Now my question is are my Synchros toast or is it tellin me to change/check fluid level. And what fluid should I use?

You can check the fluid level, but if the other gears work fine, I doubt you'll find any difference.
It takes 85-90W gear oil. Plain jane stuff.

I think you might be looking at a rebuild tho

Ugh as long as it hold out till I finish fighting with GN to cover their warranty on my truck I'll be happy the Z would normally be retired until spring by now

empty the fluid, see if theres any bronze flakes in it which would elude to the fact that the whats it called ring is toast. blocker ring? i think its called im totally drawing a blank, but ill call it the blocker ring for now. yes i would say your synchro is what is to blame for the problem.

not if you wanna replace the whole syncro, including the hub and the sleeve. which could get pricey

Re: Super T-10 Grinds in second

yea, that might do it. If you have the tooling to do a rebuild? you need a press for certain aspects... Might be able to bring the shaft into a shop and grease their palms with $20 or something for a big of quick help.
pick up a book on the matter. I have one and it uses the T10 as one of their examples, doesn't seem *that* hard, if you're mechanically inclined and have some tools...

Re: Super T-10 Grinds in second

Here are 2 sites I have bookmarked for T10 info back when it was still in my car...

http://fiedlerh.home.att.net/BW.htm

http://www.circletrack.com/techartic...ild/index.html

And this site has parts to rebuild, the owner is very knowledgeable. I was planning to use him to rebuild mine had I kept it..
