Does High Stall = Sloppy Shifts?
I am going to be getting a higher stall convertor (probably the vigalante 9.5" 2600 stall). I have heard a few people say that the trans. will not shift as hard as it used to. Is this true?

Car: 1989 TTA
Engine: 3.8 Turbo
Transmission: 200R4
Axle/Gears: 3.27
In a rescent High Tech issue they installed a Vigilante and it did the same thing, but only the 2-3 shift not 1-2,I had the same experience in my car and did not know it was common,I installed a shift kit and it's solid now I would siggest doing both together

A friend of mine put a higher stall in his truck which has a 327. He said that afterwards it didnt hit near as hard, whereas it used to break loose pretty good before. I think it was a 2500 or 3000 stall converter.

The transmission still shifts just as hard, the torque converter absorbs more of the shock when it stalls at a higher rpm.

1989 firebird formula
Mods: converted from T.B.I. to a carburator 305 to a 350. Flowmater exhaust,hedman shortie hedders,202 heads,350 horse cam,bored.40 over, Edlebrock torker2 intake.
Future mods 400 performer rpm intake (polished) and 600 edlebrock carb, comp roller cam, and way better heads. orpossibly a 383 stroker?

I can't imagine any mechanical reason that would be true. The torque convertor has absolutaly nothing to do with shifting. I think the higher stall masks the effects of the shift kit because it couples at a much higher rpm.
