82 Super T-10 Clutch Issues

Any body know if theres a good kit out to convert my mechanical clutch over to hydraulic, I love my 4 speed BW but the mechanical linkage is just nickel and diming me to death, first the Z-Bar(160.00) now the swivel and fork rod(32.00) plus the centerforce is so stiff I'm gonna look like peg leg here shortly, any help would be appreciated.

Re: 82 Super T-10 Clutch Issues

Yep!
I bought mine from a guy who was taking his datsun 280z to an auto, so the "kit" was already setup.

Go to
www.howeracing.com and find the hydraulic throw out bearing kit. $140 or so. Decide if you want the normal kit, or the one for racing clutches. I think "normal" aftermarket clutches will fit the normal kit, and the one for racing clutches is for the smaller diameter $700 type of SUPER racing clutches... I have the normal kit.

Then buy the hose kit. It's a few hydraulic lines with ends crimped on. Or buy those locally the length you need.

Then you need a 3/4" master cylinder. I have a tilton one. Wilwood makes one. They universally have a 5/16-24NF male thread on it.

Now here's the tricky part, you need to connect the pedal rod (5/16" bent rod with cotter pin hole) to the 5/16"NF male rod on the master cylinder. You can't mount the MC to the firewall (not enough room below the brake booster) so you have to bring it out a ways. Mine is less than pretty how I did it, so i'll let you think up a method on your own. If you get REALLY stuck I can show you how I did mine...

The Lakewood scattershield for 84-92 F applications has a canted bolt pattern (for F T-5) and a straight up bolt pattern (for F T-10.) That's one option. Everything else you need can be had from an 84-92 F.

Re: 82 Super T-10 Clutch Issues

Wait, what did you do? Are you using a hydraulic TO bearing or normal '82 Z bar stuff? I still have my z bar parts (the two you need), but if you're using a hydraulic setup, you won't need them....
Let me know.

Re: 82 Super T-10 Clutch Issues

If you need the pushrod to the clutch fork, its just a 3/8-16 threaded rod ground to a round point on one end. I didn't have one, so I just made one. Bought a legnth of threaded rod and a nut, and put it in, and cut to length. Pretty easy.

If you have the Z-bar out though, I'd HIGHLY recommend taking it to some kinda fab shop and have the levers beefed up. Have some heavy steel plate welded to it, on both the lever and to the tube as well - have it done with 1/4" steel on both levers, almost up to the pushrod holes (pedal and fork rod end). Will help make it a bit stronger, and those levers are notorious for having the welds crack, or crack right above the welds. Mine has several times.

Re: 82 Super T-10 Clutch Issues

What do you need Bowtie?

Keep in mind i'm flying out to USA early sunday morning, so if you let me know before sat night I can bring it, then ship it to you from USA to USA, save duty and long border delays, you'd have it mid next week. If you don't get back to me before that, then I can't ship it out until the following monday (when i'm back in canada) then arrival probably 2 weeks after, plus fees and more shipping.

tell me which colors you need.

PS - the TO bearing has about 500 miles on it. I'll toss it to you if you can make use of it, otherwise it's going in the trash here.
