Dana 44? How strong >>>
How much horsepower and torque can it handle?
SLP selling them for 1800, these are 10-bolt 8.5" rears, right. Could someone compare them to GM 12-bolts, and the pluses or minuses of each.
Thanks, Dave '91 T/A

Car: 87 IROC L98
Engine: 588 Alcohol BBC
Transmission: Powerglide
Axle/Gears: Ford 9"/31 spline spool/4.86
No they are Dana44 8.5 gears. Just because they have 10 bolts on the cover doesn't make them a GM 10 bolt.
They use 30 spline axles. The 12 bolt does also. The 12 bolt is 8.875 gears. The axles are not held in with c-clips like the 12 bolt but more like a ford 9" or ausi 9 bolt.
Like I mentioned in a previous post. For the cost of an SLP Dana44, I'd rather spend the couple of hundred more and get a 9".

383 stroker (carbed) with double hump cast iron heads and pump gas
454 Big Block buildup now in progress for the 2001 racing season
Best results before the 383 blew up
Best ET on a time slip: 11.857 altitude corrected to 11.163
Best MPH on a time slip: 117.87 altitude corrected to 126.10
Best 60 foot: 1.662
Racing at 3500 feet elevation but most race days it's over 5000 feet density altitude!
