Clunking Noise from the rear?..help
Hi Guys,
Almost everytime I am making a slow left turn, I hear a clunking noise from the differential. I also sometimes hear the noise when I put the car in reverse. I called a "rearend specialty" place out here and they said that my Posi unit may have gone bad, and to change all the reuired stuff (to do the job correctly) would be close to $900.
What do you guys think? It's a 1990 IROC-Z with a 5-speed manual tranny. Since I am the second owner, I don't think the rearend has ever been serviced. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!
Tommy

i think i'd get it looked at ASAP. if it is the rear it'll only get worse and maybe break more parts. since you said it does it when you turn it sounds like spider gears or posi clutch to me. one thing you might want to look for is a broke trans mount, but in your case i don't think so.
