TV Cable Won't Rachet
When attempting to adjust my T.V. cable I discovered that it will not rachet. Does this indicate a problem? Should I replace the cable?

I had the same problem with mine, and although it shifted properly at WOT, the shifts were soft and the part throttle shifts were FUBAR. The new TV cable fixed all that. It was a pain to install, but worth it.

Jim,
How do you change the TV cable. I just put Vortec heads and manifold on my car and had to order a throttle bracket including a new TV cable and throttle cable from LOKAR. I guess I have to install these things before the trans will shift properly (at least according to edelbrock). Thanks for the help.

The TV cable installation was a huge pain in the *** for me. I'm not sure how it's situated on a carb, but the cable itself should be the same. The housing will snap into a square hole in the bracket, then the tv cable itself will snap on to a round stud on the throttle linkage. The pain in the *** is the other end. You need to drop the pan and you'll see where the cable goes into the trans on the passenger side, that it is hooked to a thingamagig. You need to unhook it, then remove a 10mm bolt holding it to the outside of the transmission. Putting the new one in is like having sex for the first time. Even after you find the hole, you'll be there all night trying to get it in. I had the best luck putting the seal (buy a new one of those too) around the base of the cable housing, then putting the whole thing into the hole, all with one hand, and then holding it there (still with 1 hand) and trying to thread the 10mm bolt back in (with 1 hand). It would have helped me considerably if I wasn't left handed and forced to use my right hand. When you put the pan back up, make for damn sure that there isn't any tranny fluid on the housing, on the pan or on the gasket, or you'll be replacing the gasket a week later like I did.

Are you adjusting it correctly? You need to push in the side (notice it spring loaded), then while your finger is holding in, push the little cap part (tech term)where the cable slides though on the front end side, back in towards the firewall.
Then let go, and open the throttle to WOT, you should hear several "clicks" then.
