Torsen differential
Has anyone used this? If I got 28 spline axles can I use it in my 2-series carrier? Would that change it so that I needed 3-series gears?

I used it. Its for 3-series carriers so you need 3.23, 3.42, 3.73, etc gears. Check out the camaroz28.com For Sale board, there are 4th genners selling gears all the time.
Wait... since you have an 88 car, that means your rear axles are 26 splines, and the torsen wont fit. You'll need a set of 28 spline axles as well. Might be cheaper to just replace the whole rear end.

I went thru this same buildup last year, I didn't want to use stock axles anyway so it made sense to use my '86 housing with new Moser HD axles. $265 wholesale for both axles.
The HD Torsen has been absolutely great in drag racing, autox, and road racing this season. It burns-out and launches on both wheels, while managing corners under power very smoothly. Good design!

Car: 1984 Trans Am WS6
Engine: Minirammed 385, 396 RWHP
Transmission: T56
Axle/Gears: 3.73 Moser 12-bolt
See: http://www.isthq.com/~dan/10bolt.html for instructions. I put it in my 1984 housing with Moser 28 spline axles. It replaces your 2-series carrier. The carrier is the part that the ring bolts onto, and the differential is the inner workings.
